After his personal meeting with John Paul II

Dearest Friends,

a short time ago the Holy Father gave me the moving surprise of an invitation, in order to assure me and all the friends of Communion and Liberation of his continual love and his daily prayer for me and for the work in hand. Thus - as it was explicitly mentioned - the fortieth year of our history has enjoyed the blessing of the Father who gave our Fraternity and Memores Domini the generative recognition of God's Church.

I asked him, "Your Holiness, can I take your blessing to my fellow-travellers?" "My blessing", said His Holiness, and then he taking one step back, and added "And my greetings".

Loving Him, this great sign and continuation of Himself Jesus gave us, loving him with affection and effectively has always been our passion, the first experience of what St Paul says in the most meaningful text for our charism, "Though living in the flesh we live in the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me" (Gal 2:20).

This is the supplication of our eyes and our heart before the stable of Bethlehem. And it is the resolution offered to the Holy Father, by our life, a common surge of gratitude and faithfulness to Him.

May the Spirit that gave flesh to the Word of God "revitalise the soul in our frail bodies".

I ask you therefore for the charity of forgiveness and collaboration for me, who live among you to carry this glad and yet painful love for Christ, for the Pope, for my destiny and yours.

Fr Luigi Giussani

P.S. We extend our thankful greetings to Mgr Dziwisz, the faithful servant of the Holy Father and of our life of faith.
